Mindful: A Meditation After Recovery

Lord, I’ll take the good.
I’ll take the good all day long.
This world will give it.

Perfect is always
on that distant horizon,
always almost here.

You can swim in good,
build your house on top of it,
smell it, taste it, feel.

How much of this life
have I burned straight through for not
being good enough?

How much of myself?
Good is always here, right here,
in this still moment.

Now is my fortune
of bluest skies and sunshine,
so let it warm me.

Let the others burn
themselves through, walking all night
toward horizons.

I will camp right here,
and when I wake, I will wake
with what I value.
